There is good news for the people of Agra. Metro service has started for the people here. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Agra Metro through digital medium on Wednesday. CM Aditya Nath Yogi flagged off the train.

Information:

In Agra, Uttar Pradesh, there are plans to build a 29.40 km urban Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) with two lines and 28 stations.

On June 30, 2016, RITES developed the DPR (Detailed Project Report) for the Agra Metro Phase 1 project and submitted it to the UP state government for approval. The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRCL) was designated as the project’s “coordinator” in 2017 in order to organize all parties involved and get things moving.

The project was approved by the Cabinet of the Central Government in February 2019, and the Supreme Court gave it the go-ahead to begin construction in July 2020, subject to UPMRCL meeting a set of 11 requirements.

The Prime Minister officially opened work on the first 4 kilometers of Phase 1’s construction (the Taj East Gate – Taj Mahal Ramp) on December 7, 2020, via video conference. Its Priority Corridor is a 7 km stretch between Jama Masjid and Taj East Gate that has 6 stations (3 underground and 3 elevated).

The Priority Corridor for Agra Metro is anticipated to be finished and operational in June 2024, above the original date of March 2024. The first phase should be finished in 2026.

Specifications :

  1. Agra Metro will run at 90 km per hour.
  2. If any person waits unnecessarily at the station for more than 20 minutes, he will be warned.
  3. The station will be monitored through AI.
  4. Currently this metro will run between 6 stations.
  5. The minimum fare in metro will be Rs 10 and maximum Rs 60 depending on the distance.
  6. A metro coach has 60 seats and standing space for 200 people.
  7. Metro will operate from 6 am to 10 pm.
